Apollo.io Review: Prospecting and outreach in one platform
Apollo bundles contact data, sequences, and AI writing into one platform with a generous free tier. The catch is data quality, so verify records before you build a campaign on them.
Apollo.io pitches itself as the full prospecting stack — database, outreach, dialer, and AI writing in one subscription — and after a quarter of real use, we can confirm the stack part. The quality of each layer is more uneven.
The database is the draw: well over two hundred million contacts, filterable to a target list in minutes. For breadth and price per contact, nothing we tested matches it. The sequencing tools are competent — multi-step email campaigns with automatic follow-ups — and the AI writer produces acceptable first drafts for sequences, which saves reps real time.
Now the honest part: data quality varies, and this is the known Apollo trade-off. In our test batches, roughly one in five records had a stale title or a bounced email. The built-in verification helps but does not eliminate it. Our rule after three months: never build a high-value campaign on unverified records — credit-check the batch first. The UI also buries features; expect a real learning curve before your team uses even half of it.
Pricing is aggressive. A useful free tier, a Basic plan around $49 per user per month, and higher tiers that unlock the dialer and deeper intelligence features. Compared with buying a contact database and a sequencer separately, the value is obvious.
For outbound sales teams on a budget, Apollo is the pragmatic choice — provided you treat data hygiene as part of the job.
The verdict
Buy it if you run outbound sales and want list-building plus outreach in one affordable platform. Skip it if your deals are high-value enough that a wrong email costs more than a premium data provider.

Ready to try Apollo.io?
Apollo bundles a contact database, email sequences, and AI writing into one login, which sounds like a lot, because it is. The free tier is genuinely generous, and SDR teams can go from list to sent email without leaving the tool. Data quality varies, so verify before you blast.
