Notion AI Review: Smarter notes, wikis, and meeting docs
Notion AI is a nice add-on for teams that already live in the workspace. The Q&A over your own notes is the standout feature. Just know it's an extra cost on top of your plan.
Notion AI is the least flashy AI product we tested and one of the most used by the end of the month. Its advantage is position: it lives inside the tool where your notes, projects, and wikis already exist, so using it requires no new tab, no new habit, no export step.
The feature that justified the add-on for us is Q&A. Ask "what did we decide about the pricing change?" and it searches across the entire workspace and answers with citations to the specific pages. For teams whose knowledge lives in Notion, this turns scattered documentation into something you can actually query — we stopped maintaining a separate FAQ almost immediately.
The writing features are competent without being remarkable: drafting in place, summarizing long pages, translating, improving tone. Database autofill is the sleeper hit — AI properties that classify and summarize rows have quietly automated parts of our content pipeline.
The limits follow from the position. It is not a general assistant; there is no voice mode, and complex generation tasks go to Notion's underlying models, which trail ChatGPT and Claude on hard problems. The add-on costs roughly $8 to $10 per user per month on top of your workspace plan, which is reasonable for teams but adds up, and it works best only after your workspace is genuinely well-maintained — AI cannot retrieve knowledge you never wrote down.
If your team already runs on Notion, the add-on is an easy yes. If not, do not buy Notion for the AI.
The verdict
Buy the add-on if your team's knowledge already lives in Notion and you want it searchable by question instead of by folder. Skip it as a standalone AI writer — general assistants do that better for less.

Ready to try Notion AI?
Notion AI is useful if you already live in Notion, which is exactly the right way to think about it. It writes inside your docs, answers questions across your notes, and turns meeting notes into action items. If Notion is just your to-do list, skip the add-on.
